In this class we look at the historical evidence for Jesus, finding out what he was really like. Then we take a look at the resurrection – the miracle at the center of the Christian faith. Do we really have any good reason to believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead?
The creation vs evolution debate has taken on great cultural significance. Some evolutionists label their opposition as ignorant and simple-minded, while many creationists accuse their counterparts of pushing an atheistic agenda.
In this class, we look at both sides of the debate, and consider how a Christian should evaluate this issue.
Is there such a thing as absolute truth, and if there is, then how can we know it? The Christian faith presupposes the existence of absolute truth, and the ability to know that truth. However, the existence and knowability of truth is often denied in our culture. In today’s class, we defend the existence of absolute truth and talk about how we can have confident knowledge in our beliefs.
In this class we introduced the course and took a broad look at the question “what is christianity?” The ‘doctrine’ – or right beliefs – of Christianity were discussed. We also take a look at the meaning and significance of apologetics.
There were a bunch of awesome questions about Christian doctrine that I think we’ll try to address more fully as the class goes on, thanks for the solid class participation!
If you made it to the first class, you may remember that we started running out of time at the end and we had to skip over a video we wanted to show you. Here is is, taken from YouTube and embedded in this site in all it’s glory – enjoy!
Hello all, members of the “deeper” class at Hopevale Church (and visitors, you’re welcome too!). This is the website companion to the class, we’ll have class notes available and also a podcast…stay tuned I suppose. If you want to leave questions here feel free. Otherwise, let me (Kyle Deming) or Kyle Taylor know what you’d like to see here and we’ll see what we can do.
